“There must be a desirable rendezvous between ‘Green Politics’ and environmental protection as a sustainable development ideal for a country like India”, said T.P. Srinivasan, former Ambassador and India’s representative to the United Nations.

Mr Srinivasan was inaugurating the seminar on ‘Green Politics: Perspectives on tights and democracy’ organised by the Department of Political Science at N. S. S. College, Pandalam, on Wednesday.

According to him, sustainable development involves a process of change wherein the core components of society, resource usage, investment, technology and consumption patterns operate in harmony with the eco systems.

Presiding over the inaugural session, Prof R. Prasannakumar, education secretary of NSS Colleges’ Central Committee, stressed the need of development based on a balanced approach to the eco-system, a world view which India has been developing down the centuries.

Prof G.Madhukumar, college principal, and Dr G. Pradeep, head of the department of Political Science, also spoke.
