The chief minister Oommen Chandy has expressed apprehension at the increasing instances of trumped up reports appearing in a section of the media on the alleged attack on Sabarimala pilgrims in Kerala.
Referring to the Mullaperiyar issue during his inaugural address on the occasion of the CM’s Mass Contact Programme here on Tuesday, the chief minister said that the avowed stance of the government, the administration and the people of Kerala on the issue was that “Water for Tamil Nadu, Security for Kerala”.
People of Kerala had always welcomed their brethren from across the border as guests. However, there appeared to be a concerted effort to publish trumped up reports of alleged attack on the Sabarimala pilgrims from Tamil Nadu in Kerala. “To ally any fears in the minds of the people of Tamil Nadu, the Kerala government had taken advertisements in newspapers, he said.
The Kerala government was of firm belief that the issue could be sorted out keeping the good relations we have with our neighbouring State, he said and cautioned against any move to create an impression that Kerala and Tamil Nadu were aligned to opposing camps in this regard.
