The pooja ceremony of the Malayalam movie, `Thanichalla Njan’ (Iam not alone) of the award-winning director, Babu Thiruvalla, was held at a unique communal amity congregation at the St John’s Cathedral auditorium in Thiruvalla on Sunday.

Addressing the august function, Geevarghese Mar Coorilos, Metropolitan of the Niranom diocese of the Jacobite Syrian Church; Akeeramon Kalidasa Bhattathiri, Tantri of Thiruvalla Sreevallabha Temple and Mohammed Amin Hasaani, Imam of Changanacherry Juma Masjid have stressed the importance of maintaining unity and harmony among people belonging different religious faiths in a secular, democratic set up.

The story of the film is based on the real life story of two unique friends, Razia Beevi, a Muslim woman who is also the vice-president of the Amblappuzha grama panchayat and Chellamma Antharjanam, an 85-year old Namboodiri woman who was saved from the railway track at Amblappuzha by the former 10 years ago.

Malayalam actors, Kalpana and KPAC Lalitha are giving life to the two friends in the movie and both of the actors, along with the Antharjanam and Razia Beevi, attended the function.

Disappointed in life, he Antharjanam who was found fearlessly walking to death along the railway track, against an advancing train, was rescued by Razia Beevi 10 years ago. She had given a new lease of life to the elderly woman, treating her as her own mother all these years, disregarding the scornful remarks made by certain communal elements in the society.

Addressing the meet, Fr Abraham Mulamoottil, Pushpagiri Chairman, said the film would be a classic upholding the sublime message of community and community living.

Mathew T. Thomas, MLA, Kaviyur Sivaprasad, Blessie, Jayaraj, all cine personalities; Satheesh Kochuparambil, Mahatma Gandhi University Syndicate member; R. Jayakumar, former municipal chairman; Bobby Avagama, co-producer; M.P. Gopalakrishnan, Thiruvalla Vinodkumar and Suresh Thiruvalla, organising committee leaders, also addressed the function.
