National Museum, New Delhi, Curator Vijay Kumar Mathur, on Saturday, assessed the preliminary work on the People's Museum being set up in the city.
The museum is among the projects proposed to be implemented using proceeds of the Kollam Fest which will begin here on November 1.
Mayor Prasanna Earnest had called on National Museum Director-General C.V. Ananda Bose in New Delhi recently and discussed the project.
Mr. Bose, who had served as District Collector in Kollam years ago, had reportedly evinced keen interest, provided the civic body found land and buildings for it.
Ms. Earnest said a colonial building near the SMP Palace had been earmarked and the same was inspected by Dr. Mathur.
