Panic in Elappully as elephant runs amok

May 19, 2011 07:46 pm | Updated 07:46 pm IST - PALAKKAD:

An elephant brought for a festival at Mariyamman Temple at Elappully, near here, on Thursday ran amok creating panic in the area for over two hours.

The tusker, Pattambi Ayyappan, ran amok while returning from the temple festival on Thursday morning. All attempts by its two mahouts to bring it under control failed. A large crowd had gathered at the sceme, making it difficult for the police and the mahouts to prevent any destruction to property or casuality.

After over two hours, the mahouts managed to bring the elephant and control and tethered it to a tree. It was later taken in a lorry from Elappully.
