Ahmedabad: Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, who was scheduled to address a rally in Gandhinagar on March 26, has cancelled his visit.

“Mr. Kejriwal has cancelled his visit to Gandhinagar,” said AAP’s Gujarat convener Kanu Kalsaria, a former BJP legislator, who joined the AAP a few years ago. “AAP national convener Kejriwal will not be attending the Gandhinagar meeting. We have been told that he is busy with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi polls where names of candidates are being finalised.”

Now, the AAP’s senior leader and in-charge of organisational affairs in Gujarat, Gopal Rai, will attend the rally.

According to sources, the AAP is keen to gain a foothold in Gujarat where Assembly polls are scheduled to be held later this year. But its performance in recently-held polls in Punjab and Goa, has reduced its chances in the State where the traditional battle has been between the BJP and main opposition Congress.

For the Sunday event, volunteers from across the 182 Assembly segments will gather to discuss strategies for the Gujarat elections and plan a door-to-door campaign.
