Deputy Commissioner V.P. Ikkeri has called upon youth above 18 years of age to register their names on the voters’ list and get identity cards, so that they will be able to play an active role in electing their leaders.

Speaking after inaugurating an awareness rally organised by the district administration here on Tuesday, he said that more than 40 per cent of Indians did not vote and remained outside the electoral process, mainly owing to lack of awareness.

Hundreds of school and college students took part in the rally. Those present included Narayanaswamy, Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat and Additional Deputy Commissioner A.S. Nirvanappa.
