Former Karnataka Chief Minister and erstwhile BJP strongman B.S. Yeddyurappa will take over as the president of the Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) on December 10. The KJP was registered as a political party with the Election Commission in April 2011.
On December 9 Mr. Yedyurappa will officially give up the primary membership of the BJP and quit the Karnataka Legislative Assembly before attending a convention of his supporters in Haveri on December 10 for his formal entry into the regional outfit.
No back channel talks
Former Union Minister and Mr. Yeddyurappa’s spokesman Mr. V. Dhananjay Kumar told The Hindu on Tuesday that there was no going back on Mr. Yedyurappa’s decision to contest the 2013 State Assembly election under his the KJP’s banner. He dismissed reports carried by a section of the media that said that BJP president Nitin Gadkari was having back channel talks with Mr. Yeddyurappa . “I can confidently say that they are false and no one has contacted him so far.”
Mr. Kumar, who was expelled by the BJP recently for “anti-party activities”, is likely to be elected president of the KJP at the October 31 meeting of present office-bearers to be held in Bangalore. Mr. Prasanna Kumar, who formed the KJP last year, is also likely to get a prominent post in the organisation after Mr. Yeddyurappa takes over.
Fate of supporters
Asked what would happen to the former Chief Minister’s supporters in the Legislative Assembly, the Legislative Council, the Lok Sabha and various civic bodies, Mr. Kumar said: “They will continue to be BJP members till the next election inside the respective Houses. Outside they will be the functionaries of KJP and actively participate in the party programmes. If the BJP wants, let it expel them from the party. We are not bothered.”
The new party was not a party of Lingayats, the community which Mr. Yeddyurappa belongs to, said Mr. Kumar, adding that it would rather have a social ideology.
Congress sees a “smooth sail” ahead
Meanwhile, Corporate Affairs Minister and former Karnataka Chief Minister M. Veerappa Moily told The Hindu that the Congress was all set to recapture power in Karnataka in the next election and the BJP State unit’s vertical split, which was imminent, would only further help the Congress smooth sail of the Congress. People were annoyed with the BJP’s misrule and were waiting for a chance to change, he said.
Asked about reports that he was being projected as the Chief Minister candidate if the party captured power in Karnataka, Mr. Moily said: “I am not enthusiastic [for CM].”

The state unit of the BJP is worryingly silent about this. Such games
played by supposedly "senior" party leaders going unchecked by the so-
called High Command and failing to elicit any sensible response from
the state unit points to the total absence of party discipline and
party functioning mechanisms. The Congress too faced internal revolts
and external attacks. But they managed to weather the storm. But the
BJP seems to be heading in the exact opposite direction - it has not
even been able to put together an alliance to launch Parliamentary
proceedings against the Congress for its many crimes.
I know many will crucify me, but Narendra Modi is the only BJP leader
who has run a relentless and smooth political campaign even while
under attack from all directions. In Gujarat the situation is the
opposite of K'taka whereby Keshubhai Patel's rebellious faction which
was supposed to split the Patel votes has gone silent while Mr Modi's
show goes on. We need someone with his caliber.
These are good tidings for BJP. It may lead to loss in the short term, but is good for overall heath of the party. I was hoping that Mr. Y be expelled from the party than leave by his own choice. Next one to go is the party president. Atleast BJP will have one less aspirant for the top post.
People of karnataka gave a BJP great chance to serve the state for 1st time in history. This ended up in internal fights, groupism,High greed driven intensity of corruption in every sector from transfer's to land mafia.
All we wanted was some good governance which the state is waiting for decades and lost hope in other parties in state. But the choice turned out to be suicide. They grabbed the land from party workers itself.
There was always a bad news about state like it was an embarassment of the people who made that choice.
People will never forget this level of power abuse.
Definitely B J P will regret the decision of treating the Leader like
Yeddyurappa shabbily. After Veerendra Patil the emergence of Yddyurappa
on the scene of Political Karnataka and leading the B J P for the first
time to victory in South India was a miracle . All the credit goes to
him. And definitely he will spoil the political future of the B J P .
That will be the most auspicious day in Karnataka Politics! But then, it is better to wait and watch as the odds would be mostly in favor of BSY backtracking his stance!
Soon there will not be any national political parties in India. State level parties will dominate in forming the next central government. Mr. Yeddiurappa, it seems, do not have anymore tricks to pull out of his sleeves. His decision to start a new party shows communal politics is still thriving in India. No wonder most political parties insisted upon caste based census and UPA II agreed to it.
The declaration of Mr. B.S.Yeddyurappa to quit BJP is proved to be one more threat for the party in achieving the target 2014. The main problem with BJP is the lack of leadership. Everyone in BJP is a leader. Other parties like Congress commanded by Mrs.Sonia Gandhi, BSP by Km.Mayawati, SP by Mr.Mulayam Singh Yadav and many more. These people are the final decision maker of their parties and so they are successfull. But in BJP there is no high command or if it present then their is a lack of control over its members.
If the party doesn't resolve this problem then the target 2014 becomes hard to hit for the party.
sri Yeddy - do not disappoint us by delaying or changing your mind. Having decided
to quit, why to wait till december? Pl do it immediately
Is he looking for the right Muhurt.
It is good for BJP. One corrupt man is out from the party with a nationalistic approach. Good bye Yeddi.
