The Hassan police on Saturday arrested two more persons in connection with the gang-rape of a minor girl. With this, the total number of arrests made is nine.

The gang-rape was reported on Thursday night after the 15-year-old victim went to a child care home here seeking shelter.

IGP of Southern Range K. Ramachandra Rao visited the home.

Later speaking to presspersons, Mr. Rao said the police had arrested two more persons — Manju and Karthik.

“One more accused is absconding. We have constituted a special team to nab him,” he said.

Deputy Commissioner K.P. Mohan Raj said the girl could continue her studies and that the government would support her education.

Sources in the Women and Child Development Department said the department would make arrangements for her to study outside Hassan if her parents were still unwilling to take her home. The police produced seven of the nine arrested in the court here on Saturday.

The arrested were remanded in judicial custody.
