This business of legislators resigning or threatening to resign every other day has come to resemble a “game that children play” (bachchon ka khel), Governor H.R. Bhardwaj said here on Wednesday.
“This is what it has come to. They (the political leaders) must remember that the people of Karnataka are watching,” he warned the State’s politicians, speaking to presspersons on the sidelines of the Karnataka Women Police Conference 2013 at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences here.
Hours after Ministers, close aides of Karnataka Janata Paksha president B.S. Yeddyurappa, went to the Speaker’s chambers to submitted their resignations, Mr. Bhardwaj said he was assured by Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar that the “government was stable and safe”. “He met me yesterday and told me that he has adequate support and that the government will complete its term.”
When asked whether he had heard that a larger group of MLAs was slated to resign, he said he had not been approached by anyone with intentions to resign. He said he would not intervene in the matter unless there are any legal or procedural lapses. “I am no threat to the government,” he emphasised.
