First Additional District and Sessions judge G.D. Narasimhamurthy rejected the bail application filed by Kasturi Newz 24 reporter Naveen Soorinje, who was arrested on November 7 over the July 28 attack on a group of youth celebrating a birthday at Padil here.

Mr. Soorinje filed the bail application before the Sessions Court after the jurisdictional Third Judicial Magistrate First Class Court rejected his plea.

The judge observed that Mr. Soorinje had been absconding after the police filed a charge sheet on September 25, and never appeared voluntarily before the Third Judicial Magistrate First Class Court. He sought bail only after he was arrested by the police on a non-bailable warrant.

His advocate Sathish Kumar Bantwal said a petition for bail would be filed in the High Court.
