The general body meeting of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Wednesday, in a resolution, decided not to join forces with any other party in the next Assembly elections. It resolved to prepare the cadre and the party to come to power by launching two programmes — ‘Join Congress, bring about a change’ and ‘Walk for Protecting the State (Nada Rakshana Nadige)’.
Speaking to presspersons about the six resolutions passed at the meeting, KPCC president G. Parameshwara said the two programmes would be launched from October 2 to November 30. The first programme, launched earlier, was suspended due to drought.
Under the second programme, party workers, led by senior leaders, would take out padayatras from hobli to taluk or the Assembly constituency headquarters. Dr. Parameshwara said the party rank and file would forget all differences and wholeheartedly fight the polls, as this was “war time” in the State.Reiterating the demand for a special session of the State legislature to discuss the Cauvery issue, he said the government was not taking other parties into confidence. He urged Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar to take an all-party delegation to the Prime Minister, who is the chairman of the Cauvery River Authority, requesting him to reduce the quantum of water to be released to Tamil Nadu.
Ticket distribution
Dr. Parameshwara said the distribution of ticket to party candidates for the Assembly polls would be transparent and would be decided by the election committees at the Central and State-levels. He said central leaders had asked him to follow this procedure.
In another resolution, it urged the State government to complete all on-going projects related to the Krishna and to utilise water allocated by the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal-II.
The meeting urged the government to implement schemes for drinking water, power, good roads and garbage clearance.
