Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has said that steps will be taken to promote KAS officials of the 1998 and 1999 batches, whose promotions have been delayed as clarifications are needed on some issues.

Speaking to presspersons after inaugurating the Nutrition Rehabilitation Centre (NRC) at the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) and Hospital here on Monday, Mr, Shettar said the promotions had been delayed as there were issues concerning backlog vacancies pertaining to SC, ST officials. When pointed out that the Department of Social Welfare had clarified on the issue through its report, the Chief Minister said he would look into it and take action at the earliest.

Mr. Shettar said that when he was Revenue Minister, there were similar issues of promotions pending since two years. “I took the initiative of clearing the hurdles. In this case also, steps will be taken immediately”, he said.

Regarding considering the demand of nurses working on temporary basis for over a decade at KIMS for regularisation of services, Mr Shettar said that steps would be taken within the legal purview.

Mr. Shettar said that the KIMS Director had submitted a proposal on setting up a super-speciality hospital on the KIMS premises at Rs. 65 crore and that he would take steps to sanction it.
