Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik Belamagi has said that the State government is committed to the implementation of Article 371 (J) and extending its benefits to people of the Hyderabad Karnataka region.
Delivering the 64th Republic Day speech after unfurling the national flag at Chandrashekar Patil Stadium here on Saturday, Mr. Belamagi said the State government had started the process of framing rules and fixing reservation in the employment and education sectors for people of the region as per provisions of Article 371 (J).
He said that a statutory area development board would be constituted shortly. Also, the government was working on framing the rules to provide reservation to students of the region to get admissions to professional courses. Those who were born and raised in Hyderabad Karnataka and those who had lived in the region for a certain number of years would qualify for reservation.
Mr. Belamagi, who is also the district in-charge Minister, said the government had initiated several measures for overall development of the district.
It had initiated steps to speed up work on laying the rail line from Gulbarga to Bidar.
Already, 933 acres of land required for the line had been handed over to the department. The Railways had demanded another 86 acres of land, the acquisition process for which had begun.
He said that 25 ‘Nada Kacheries’ had been started and a few more were in the pipeline. In the past two years, 218 village accountants had been recruited. Mr. Belamagi said the government had initiated several measures to bring more industries to the district, and had given permission to 12 cement companies to establish their units in the district. For this, it had permitted them to acquire 14,957 acres of land.
Referring to the drought and crop insurance for farmers, the Minister said those who had suffered crop loss due to failure of the monsoon in 2011–12 had been paid a total of Rs. 12 crore as crop insurance.
