Karnataka Sangeeta Nritya Academy awards announced

Karnataka Sangeeta Nritya Academy has chosen two artistes for its honorary awards and 16 for annual awards for 2009-10. Selected artistes will be presented awards on March 10 at a function scheduled to be held at Ravindra Kalakshetra here.

According to an academy release, Neelattahalli Kasturi, Bangalore (Gamaka) and Ibrahim Sutar, Mahalingapur (Kathakirtan) were selected for honorary awards.

Those who were selected for annual awards are: Sarvamangala Shankar, Bangalore (vocal); Dolu Venkataswamy, Bangalore (Dolu) and A.V. Venkatamanaiah, Bangalore (violin) under Carnatic music category. Keshavarao Thite, Bijapur (vocal); Vayujeevottamachar Joshi, Raichur (vocal – visually challenged artiste); and S.F.Gojanur, Dharwad (vocal) under Hindustani music category. Veena Murthy, Bangalore; Arati Shetty, Mangalore; Sudha V. Murthy, Chellakere; and Srivatsa D.S., Bangalore (dance music) under dance category.

S.B. Shivalingappa, Bhadravati for Sugama Sangeeta; C. Veerabhadrashastri, Kolar, and Rudraaradhya Shastri, Gadag for Kathakeertan; Jayaseeta, Mysore, and A. Rukminamma, Chamarajanagar for Gamaka; and A. Sundaramurthy, Bangalore (critic).

While the honorary award carries a cash prize of Rs. 10,000 and citation, annual award carries Rs. 5,000 and a citation.
