34 houses ready in Yerlapady

The target under IAY this year (2012-13) is six houses, and under BVY, it is 10 houses.

Thirty-four houses, nine under the Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY) and 25 under the Basava Vasati Yojana (BVY), have been constructed at Yerlapady village in Karkala taluk. These houses have been constructed against the target of 14 houses under the IAY and 58 houses under the BVY in the last fiscal (2011-12).

The target under IAY this year (2012-13) is six houses, and under BVY, it is 10 houses.

A team of presspersons were taken on a tour to the village by the Udupi Zilla Panchayat on Friday to show the implementation of the IAY, BVY, and the drinking water scheme in the village.

Yerlapady has a population of 4,496. It has 932 families or households. The annual revenue of Yerlapady Gram Panchayat is Rs. 4.38 lakh. The gram panchayat spent Rs. 7.38 lakh under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MGNREGA) Scheme last year. This year, it spent Rs. 5 lakh under the scheme. As many as 542 job cards under the MGNREGA scheme had been issued by the panchayat.

Sundari Achari, whose house was constructed under the IAY, said she had spent Rs. 1.5 lakh on constructing the house. While she got Rs. 50,000 subsidy from the Government, she had availed a loan of Rs. 1 lakh from the Stree Shakti Self-Help Group (SHG) and the Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala SHG, she said. She has built a 450 sq. ft. house.

S.A. Prabhakar Sharma, Chief Executive Officer of the zilla panchayat, said the Government had now increased the subsidy from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 75,000. The houses constructed under the IAY and BVY were registered under the name of women, he said. The panchayat had built a new well at a cost of Rs. 4.65 lakh at Kajakegudde area. The well would provide drinking water to 300 persons in 40 houses in the area.
