Pressing for the fulfilment of their demands, the Karnataka State Pre-University Lecturers’ Association has decided to observe September 5 (Teachers’ Day) as ‘black day’.

Addressing journalists here on Saturday, association president Thimmaiah Purle said the members had also written an open letter to Primary and Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri in this regard.

The PU lecturers’ demands include pay parity with lecturers in degree colleges who are under UGC pay scale, promotions to degree colleges for those with Ph. D. and M. Phil, recognition of services of contract lecturers and special incentives for principals and those who were recruited in 2009, he said.

“Although we have organised several agitations in support of our demands in the last two years, they have gone in vain,” Mr. Purle said.

He said that the members would assemble at Freedom Park in the city on September 5. “We will reiterate our demands. The government should not make assurances this time, but fulfil our demands,” he added.

It may be recalled that PU lecturers boycotted evaluation last year, resulting in Common Entrance Test being delayed.
