Ending his 11-month tenure, D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Wednesday resigned as Karnataka Chief Minister, paving the way for Jagadish Shettar to take over, but not before dramatic scenes with his supporters trying to physically prevent him from stepping down.
Accompanied by some ministers, Mr. Gowda met Governor H.R. Bhardwaj at the Raj Bhavan and submitted his resignation. He informed him about the election of Mr. Shettar as leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party Legislature Party at its meeting in Bangalore on Tuesday.
Earlier as he set out from his residence “Anugraha”, his supporters, raising slogans, made a forceful bid to prevent him from submitting his resignation.
They demanded that he continue in office. Some of them also squatted on the road to block his car. Police used force to evict them. Mr. Gowda sought to pacify them and later left the residence but said he would tender his resignation.
Mr. Gowda’s supporters had also gathered outside Raj Bhavan, but the police intervened to clear the way for him.
Mr. Shettar also met the Governor and staked claim to form the Government. He is scheduled to be sworn in as Chief Minister on Thursday.

I really wonder how much effort is wasted doing all this crap. I feel
there should have been a time sheet for all the ministers just like the
IT folks.. I am sure more than 90% of the time is spent doing all this
crap and 10% towards development of the state!
God save India!
The facial expression of the Big Five of the BJP in Karnataka sums it all. Look at the grim-faced posing of the two former CMs, and the smiling faces of the new CM and his deputy-in-waiting, and Ananthkumar who does not have anything to lose from this. As long as he is a MP and a central leader for the BJP, he is satisfied. I wonder what happens if the BJP loses in Karnataka and wins at the Center in the next elections? All these people would resign their MLA seats and try to become a Rajya Sabha MP so that they can become a central minister. All they want is power at any cost, and not serve the people.
If Yeddy and DVS Gowda fell apart within 11 months, it would not take more than 3 months for Shettar and Yeddy to fall apart. Yeddy's next move would be to call on early elections in December or install Shobha as the CM. It all depends on how Shettar accomodates Yeddy's wishes with respect to the latter's choice of ministers, corporation heads, candidates for next elections, etc.... Yeddy is not realizing what he has done now. Gowda had been very far more humble, respectful and loyal to him. It is the high command that let him continue as CM inspite of Yeddy's claims to the post. It is not of Gowda's mistake. Yeddy will soon realize this once Shettar gets going in his own inimicable style. He will build his own clout within the state and central BJP, and at least make sure the party is under his control (either he is State Chief or Leader of the Legislature Party) even if it loses the next assembly elections.
Its a joke the tax payer is paying for 2 Dy. CM's over and above a huge cabinet. Its a waste of public funds and this should how little checks and balances there are in our country that politicians swindle the public exchequer in broad daylight.
There is very little credible leadership in our country, be it either at National level or state level. The caste based politics is therefore a deliberate idea of weak politicians to play on caste card to come to power. This will further divide an already polarised nation.
Not sure what the heck is the problem with this state. This is like a revolving door. There is a new minister each time you take a bath. Can someone explain why can you not produce a decent, civilised,, moral and decently dressed and good looking to be the minister of this state that brags Technology.
It is disgusting to read to a foreigner that you cannot produce a leader and it seems this is a major event in this state. Time to comeup with new generation of businessman to run the city and not poloticians.
Does it matter who these buffoons come and go in Karnataka Govt? After all who looks after
the needs of the people in the province?
I strongly think there should be a rule that if you are forced to resign from your post/ tender your resignation due to any serious allegations you should not contest for that post again atleast for 3 more tenures (in spite of any fan following or supporters) and waste any more public money on avoidable stuff like BY-ELECTIONS and make politics sound frivolous!
The BJP high command should set a term of 6 months for all aspirants
to the post of Chief Minister. That way it will be able to fulfill the
aspirations of all minions in the party. Not that with a full term
anyone is capable of making a difference in Karnataka, except make
money.
At least it will take care of 10 aspirants in 5 years and the high
command can prepare a comparative statement of how much each Chief
Minister has been able to add to the party coffers.
What say you ?
Sadananda Gowda is in favour of JDS,he will quit BJP and join JDS before the election. All this has happened because of Yedayurappa's knowledge on sadananda future plan.
