One-day session of Council on June 28

A day’s session of the Legislative Council will be convened on June 28 to elect the Chairman of the House.

The term of D.H. Shankaramurthy as Chairman ended on June 21.

Senior member and Congress leader M.V. Rajasekharan has been appointed pro tem Chairman.

A meeting of the Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, here on Saturday decided to hold the session on Thursday.

The Council would meet at 11 a.m.

Addressing presspersons after the Cabinet meeting, Medical Education Minister S.A. Ramdas said as per the rules of the House, the election to the Chairman’s post should be conducted at the earliest. Mr. Rajasekharan would chair the session and conduct the election.

Mr Shankaramurthy, who has been elected to the Council from the Southwest Graduates’ constituency in the recently held elections, is likely to be elected again to the post. The Deputy Chairman would be elected on the first day of the next session to be held on July, the Minister said.
