Karnataka Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda on Monday ordered the arrest of Nithyananda for the recent attack on media persons, allegedly by his devotees, at the Dhyanapeetam ashram where they had gone for a press conference convened by him.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting with Home Minister R. Ashok and Law Minister S. Suresh Kumar about the incident at the ashram at Bidadi, on the outskirts of the city, Mr. Gowda said that Nithyananda was absconding after the incident. He had ordered his devotees to remove the representatives of a television channel from the press conference venue.
Director-General and Inspector-General of Police Lal Rukoma Pachau briefed the meeting about the events at the Dhyanapeetam. Nithyananda got angry when a television reporter asked him whether he refused to accept a court warrant and prevented police personnel from entering the Dhyanapeetam to serve it.
There was an exchange of words and he asked the devotees to remove the reporter. This led to protests by local Kannada activists demanding his arrest and the closing down of the ashram.
The Chief Minister said that the Regional Commissioner, Bangalore Division, Shambulal Meena, would hold an inquiry into the incidents and submit a report to the government for taking legal action against Nithyananda and the devotees.
Mr. Gowda also said that the ashram would be locked till the inquiry was completed or action taken.
Though he did not mention on what specific grounds Nithyananda, who is accused number one in the first information report, would be arrested, officers accompanying the Chief Minister said that it was related to the attack on the media personnel.
Mr. Meena, when contacted for details of the inquiry into the incident, said that he had not yet received orders from the government. He would start work after receiving the terms of reference.

You often see reports like this in India that a Chief Minister or a Minister has ordered the arrest of a person. The fact is that the Chief Minister or a Minister has no powers under the law to order arrest of a person. He can only direct the home Department or any other Department of the government to make any investigation or an enquiry. Whether a person should be arrested is decided exclusively by the investigating officer on the basis of material that he finds in the course of investigation. Your reporters must question the Chief Minister when he makes a statement that he has ordered an arrest.
Has taken guts decision of arrest and locking of the ashram cleared all the dust of many people belived that will take action imagin that impact on their hindu vote bank. This credit goes local news channel hunted his each and every movements and his background and how he became the saint/spiritual leader after one of the former devotee came forward and narrated her exploitation story for continuous five years by aborting her fetus. That channel dedicates itself to providng justice to many devotees lost their wealth and suffered sexual exploitation under the coverage of spiritual and meditation. Credit goes to active media and organization took protest march against that pontiff to pur him behind bar for his alleged misdeed and fraud by made them to belive.
very nice decision. I don't understand why these people are roaming behind him even after knowing his background. The pitiest thing is those behind roaming people the educated. I will pray god to open the eyes of those people to see what is happening and how he is cheating the public and how many cases are registered against him as well as his activities. It is high time to put these people behind the bars. Congrats to Karnataka CM for this nice and wise decision
Ministry of Law & Social Justice, Govt. of India should regulate the terms for Ashrams spreaded across the country. General Public don't know whether Ashram owners are real monks or businessmen or Politician. It is Government duty to make the public aware about these duplicates.
A chief minister has no power to order arrest some one at will.He thinks that is the king of Karnataka. In democracy there is no place for autocracy. He could have directed to investigate and take action. How can he lock a private property because some hooligans protest and create trouble. In Karnataka every unemployed guy has joined some organization and take law into their own hands and assault people in the name of language or some issues no way they are connected.Karnataka Govt. and Police are weak and mute spectators to all the tamashas by these pro Kannada organizations. No mature or cultured person is heading these pro Kannada organization. It is easy way of making money in the name of language or some issues.
Thanks to Karnataka Government. In TN he is being glorified and given all high posts, please speed up the trial
Nityananda also wear sanyasi's robe and so according to B J P chief,
he has to be respected by touching his feet. Why sadanand Gowda is
not doing obeisance but trying to arrest him is not clear. Whatever
be, we people know these cases will go on for generation and later he
will be exhonerated. Our police, investigation commisssions , C B I
are all simply wonderful indeed !
Finally, somebody with GUTS to stand against fake baba Nityananda!! May
your tribe increase Mr.Sadananda Gowda. Even people in Madurai should
revolt against this wicked social creature and punish him as well as the
292nd so called Adheenam for their highly deplorable acts. Seize all
assets belonging to him at both Bidadi and Madurai and wherever he has
gobbled up huge tracts of land belonging to poor farmers and put them
behind bars at the earliest!! May the truth prevail...Satyameva Jayate!
Swamiji is being targeted unfairly by forces that are against him. Truth will prevail and Swami will guide us soon!
What a ridiculous statement by Chief Minister. If he is really intersted in maintaing law and order in this matter, he should ask for a fair investigation into the clash that happened rather than giving statements to arrest without any investigation. We have seen videos of the clash and know how the goondas have mistreated the people in the ashram. Suvarna channel is another channel closely associated with Sun TV and wants to get some publicity out of this clash. Shame on Suvarna channel in trying to spread false propganda on Swami Nithyananda and trying to influence the mass people. Let the truth win and negativity be destroyed.
Arrest Him immediately
Do we not verify what the complainant did; what proof and what locus standi he has etc - before arresting the other person?
It has become politically fashionable to arrest any saffron donning person - on any one's charges, howsoever unconnected he may be with such allegations.
In the instant case - did the reporter know any thing first hand about what he alleges? Obviously, unlikely.
The ARREST CULTURE -before proving guilty - in India is really becoming too much. Every day, we hear of arrests, on slightest charges.
Let courts decide on the allegations. If proved guilty punishment will come. Why Media and Ministers should pre-judge issues?
