Karnataka Council biennial election on June 11

The Election Commission on Friday announced the schedule for the biennial election to 11 seats in the Karnataka Legislative Council. The poll will be held on June 11 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and the members will be elected by the MLAs.

The counting of votes will be taken up at 5 p.m. on the same day. The election is caused by the retirement of 11 MLCs on June 17.

The poll notification will be issued on May 25 and June 1 is the last date for filing nomination. On June 2 the papers will be scrutinised and June 4 is the last date for withdrawal of the candidatures.

MLCs who are retiring are: Abdul Azeem, K.C. Kondaiah, Quazi Arshad Ali, S. Chikkamadu, former BJP minister G. Janardhana Reddy, Thontadarya, H.C. Neeravari, Leader of the Opposition in the Council Motamma, Vimala Gowda, D.S. Veeraiah and V.R. Sudarshan.
