The State government on Friday ordered a probe by the Criminal Investigation Department against the Karnataka State Open University in the backdrop of allegations of conducting technical and paramedical courses illegally.
A couple of days ago, Minister for Medical Education S.A. Ramdas alleged the KSOU had violated all rules and signed 95 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with institutions across the country in 2010 offering 422 distance education courses, including 34 that fall under the purview of the Medical Education Department. However, KSOU Vice-Chancellor Rangappa denied the MoUs violated laws.
Following a letter by Mr. Ramdas to Chief Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda, the Principal Secretary of the Higher Education Department, was directed to examine the matter and submit a report.
After receiving the report, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Higher Education portfolio, ordered the Home Department to conduct the probe by the CID and submit a report to the government, said a release issued by the Chief Minister's Secretariat.
