Three senior scientists from Bangalore were honoured with the Sir M. Visvesvaraya awards for 2011 instituted by the State government. The awards carry a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh each and a citation, and were conferred on Raghavendra Gadagkar, Centre for Ecological Sciences and K. Muniyappa, Department of Biochemistry, both of the Indian Institute of Science; and K. Siddappa, former Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University and honorary director of JSS Foundation for Science & Society. The Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology also gave away 12 awards to scientists and engineers from the State.
