ICGS Vishwast to be commissioned tomorrow

ICGS Vishwast, the first of the new class of offshore patrol vessels indigenously designed and built by Goa Shipyard Ltd.(GSL) will be commissioned in the Indian Coast Guard by Defence Minister A.K. Antony on Wednesday. The commissioning ceremony will be held at GSL, south Goa. The vessel was fitted with a large range of facilities for pollution control, fire- fighting, search and rescue operations and patrolling, said an official spokesman of the GSL here on Monday. He said the 90-m vessel was primarily designed for patrolling and policing maritime zones, search and rescue operation, maritime surveillance, anti-smuggling operation, pollution response against oil spillage and external fire-fighting. It will join the fleet after commissioning and shall be deployed extensively for safety of maritime zones and offshore assets.
