Noted Civil rights activist Dr Binayak Sen on Saturday alleged that the government was handing over resources to corporate giants and wanted to “stand as a guarantor to the expropriation” of the marginalised sections.

Speaking at a seminar at the Madras Christian College here on Human Rights and the Marginalised sections of India, Dr. Sen said such people were displaced for the land that they own after minerals or petrol was discovered there or the government decided to construct a dam.

There was no way to protest, he said noting that the affected persons could take to arms or other violent means.

“Now only through unity and force can these plunderers be stopped. That is the reason why today in Nandigram and other places there is a situation of do or die,” he said.
