Four civilians, including two women, were killed in a landmine blast triggered by Maoists in Narayanpatna block in Koraput district of Orissa on Saturday.
Nine jawans of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and two civilians were injured in the blast that occurred at Dhaiguda near Palur village.
“A jeep carrying a family from Narayanpatna to Koraput was targeted as some SOG jawans were also travelling in it,” said Koraput Superintendent of Police Anup Sahu. “It was evident that naxalites were keeping track of the movement of the SOG jawans although they travelled in the private vehicle. It seems to be a planned terror tactic of the Maoists to hamper the relationship between the general public and the police,” Mr. Sahu added.
Another attack
In another incident, naxals struck at Machkund in Koraput district around Friday midnight. They ransacked the tehsil office and burnt records besides damaging a mobile communication tower and the BSNL’s telephone exchange. Maoists also struck at Orissa’s Sundergarh district early on Saturday. They kidnapped three persons, including a local CPI(M) leader and Zilla Parishad member Anand Masihari.
