The first administration of the Common Admission Test (CAT), being conducted online for the first time for admission to IIMs today, has been successful, Director IIM-B Pankaj Chandra said.

“The first administration (the first batch of students who appear for the exam) of CAT, being conducted online for the first time has been successful”, he said.

“In each centre there are 5-6 rooms where the CAT exam is being conducted. In a few rooms of some centres, there was a virus attack on computers. However, the students in such centres will be given an alternative for the test - either today or on some other day - and they will be intimated”, Chandra said.

The CAT is being held in 105 centres across 32 cities in two rounds. The first rounds starts from 10 am to 12.30 pm and the second commences from 3.30 pm to 6 pm.

For the first time, the conduct of CAT has been entrusted to American firm Prometric, which was organising the online test over a period of 10 days.

A total of 2,41,582 students have registered for CAT this year.
