Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should explain to the nation whether his government endorses Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal's views on the Comptroller and Auditor-General's findings on the presumptive loss of Rs.1.76 lakh crore in the 2G spectrum allocation, national secretary of Communist Party of India D. Raja has said.
Seeking the Prime Minister's response on Mr. Sibal's statement that the CAG report was “utterly erroneous and without any basis,” the CPI leader said it was irresponsible for a senior Minister to criticise the findings of a constitutional body at a time when various agencies are investigating into the alleged scam in the allocation of 2G spectrum.
Apart from various agencies such as the Central Bureau of Investigation, the Public Accounts Committee was examining the report. After the PAC scrutinises the report, only Parliament has the right to accept or reject it, he said, while addressing a rally organised by the Puducherry unit of CPI to highlight the anti-people policies of the Centre and Congress government here.
“The Congress party should tell the country whether Sibal is acting as a Minister or lawyer for corporate companies,” Mr. Raja said.
With the Centre not conceding to the Opposition demand for a probe by Joint Parliamentary Committee, the Left along with other secular and democratic parties would explain to the public on the need to constitute JPC.
Terming the 2G scam as the “biggest scandal” that rocked the country, he said the nation's wealth was plundered by the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government.
