BJP, Congress state chiefs file papers for lone Rajya Sabha seat from Goa

Panaji: President of the Goa unit of Bharatiya Janata Party Vinay Tendulkar and Goa Congress president and sitting Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik filed their nominations for the election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat on Tuesday.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had notified elections to Rajya Sabha members on July 4. Today was the last day for filing of nomination for the one vacancy for Goa.

The forms will be scrutinised on Wednesday and last date of withdrawal of nomination is July 14. Polling will be held on July 21. Of the 38 members in the Assembly, the ruling coalition led by BJP has 12 MLAs and support of three MLAs of Goa Forward Party, three of Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party and three independents. The Congress has 16 MLAs and Nationalist Congress Party has one.
