Former Director of Mines, V.D. Rajagopal, the third-accused in the illegal mining case of Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), was granted bail by the Principal Special Court for CBI Cases here on Friday. Mr. Rajagopal is in judicial custody since November 14, 2011 after he was arrested by the CBI on November 12. He was granted interim bail twice by the court to visit his ailing father-in-law once and to attend his funeral later.

The judge concurred with the argument of Mr. Rajagopal’s counsel that the fundamental rights of the accused would be violated if he was confined to jail till another charge-sheet was filed by the CBI in the case and decided to enlarge him on bail.

Judge U. Durga Prasada Rao directed the accused to surrender his passport to the court, to execute a bond for Rs. 50,000 and sureties of two persons.
