TDP district unit leaders and the rank and file are upbeat following the successful conduct of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu’s “Vasthunna meekosam” padayatra for a period of 14 days in six Assembly segments of Karimnagar district covering over 198 km distance from December 15 to 28.

Mr. Naidu launched his padayatra from the interior Obulapuram village of Mallapur mandal after entering Karimnagar district from the neighbouring Adilabad district. The yatra evoked good response as women, youth and others accorded a warm welcome to Mr. Naidu in the district.

It was surprising to note that the TDP president was accorded a rousing reception in the Korutla and Huzurabad Assembly segments represented by TRS legislators.

In the Huzurabad Assembly segment represented by TRS floor leader in Assembly, Etala Rajender, the villagers from far-flung areas of the segment arrived in large numbers to get a glimpse and greet Mr. Naidu at Gumpula and Tanugula cross roads during the yatra on Friday.

TDP legislators L. Ramana, G. Kamalakar and Ch. Vijayaramana Rao took lots of initiatives for the mobilisation of public for the success of the padayatra in their respective constituencies of Jagtial, Karimnagar and Peddapalli.

However, the yatra evoked poor response in the Choppadandi Assembly segment represented by TDP legislator Suddala Devaiah.

Party cadres were angry over the appointment of Suddala Devaiah’s son Gautham as the district Telugu Yuvatha president.

Barring stray incidents of some Telangana protagonists raising slogans of “Jai Telangana” in the Choppadandi Assembly segment, the yatra went off peacefully in the entire district.

The party cadres were also happy with Mr. Naidu conducting Assembly segment-wise meetings with leaders and having a one-to-one interaction.

Party leaders said that the TDP president’s statement of supporting the separate Telangana movement had boosted the morale of party cadres in the district.

Even during the in-camera sessions during the Assembly segment-wise review meetings, Mr. Naidu informed party leaders to counter the Congress and TRS on Telangana statehood issue, the sources said.
