Close on the heels of Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy’s wide-ranging consultations with the Congress leadership on Telangana, PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana left for Delhi on Saturday on summons from the high command.
His visit is in line with the AICC’s announcement that it will consult the Chief Minister, the PCC chief and senior leaders from all the three regions.
He is expected to meet the party president, AICC office bearers and Union Ministers, as the party gears to come out with some decision on Telangana shortly.
Mr. Satyanarayana plans to apprise the high command about the prevailing political situation and the aspirations of the leaders from the Telangana region.
But, leaders say he might have a lot of explaining to do in the wake of his recent comments, particularly the statement that nine Congress MLAs, sailing with the YSR Congress, were deemed to be expelled.
This raised the hackles of the party leaders, who accused him of making the statement only to embarrass the Chief Minister.
His remarks led to criticism that the Government had lost its majority in the Assembly and that opposition parties could move a no-confidence motion against it.
A section of the leaders pointed out that the PCC chief was not too pleased with the Chief Minister cornering all the credit for the impressive performance in the cooperative polls.
Under fire
Secondly, he is under fire from the Congress leaders from Telangana for attending the ‘Jai Samaikyandhra’ meeting convened by party MP Vundavalli Arun Kumar in Rajahmundry last month. Notwithstanding his clarification that he attended the meeting as a friend of the Rajahmundry MP, APCC general secretary S. Indrasain Reddy faxed a letter to the AICC seeking action against him.
