One of the key accused in Emaar Properties scam case G.V. Vijay Raghav, financial head (south) of Emaar-MGF, has alleged that Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has been opposing his bail plea unnecessarily even after completing investigation and filing three charge-sheets.
During the arguments seeking bail for Mr. Vijay Raghav his counsel Diljeet Singh Ahluwalia submitted to the Principal Special Court for CBI Cases here on Tuesday that the CBI’s opposition to his client’s bail plea would not hold any ground since investigation in the case was completed in all respects. He cited several Supreme Court judgments in support of bail for his client. The CBI’s argument, filed in its counter, that the accused could influence witnesses and could prevent them from deposing in court during the trial if he was granted bail, would deny Mr. Vijay Raghav of his rights, the defence counsel noted.
When judge U. Durga Prasad Rao asked the CBI counsel to present their case, Deputy Legal Advisor to CBI B. Ravindranath sought time to argue his case as investigation officer for the case was out of station. Observing that there was no link to the presence of investigating officer and presentation of the case since investigation in the case was completed, the judge postponed the hearing to September 20. Meanwhile, in the VANPIC project case – a part of the disproportionate assets case against Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy – counsel for former Minister and an accused in the case Mopidevi Venkata Ramana Rao urged the court to give time for presenting their case. Accordingly, the judge postponed arguments to September 27.
