The monsoon session of the Legislature will commence on September 17.
Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan has issued two notifications on Saturday summoning the Assembly to meet at 9 a.m. and the Council at 10 a.m. Officials are of the view that it would be a brief session, lasting four to five days, focussing mostly on the SC/ST Sub Plan.
While the Opposition is gearing up to grill the ruling party on drought, power supply situation and shortage of seeds & fertilizer, the ruling party is unlikely to go beyond a discussion on giving legislative backing to the SC/ST sub-plan as recommended by a Cabinet Sub-Committee headed by Deputy Chief Minister C. Damodar Rajanarsimha. “There is no clarity on whether the government is ready with the legislation or it will prefer taking views of the Opposition before finalising the model,” a senior official said.
The short duration of the session is being attributed to the preoccupation of the security forces with the commencement of Ganesh Chaturthi festivities from September 19 and the upcoming CoP-11, Global Biodiversity meet.
