Rahul alerted about 'fence-sitters'

Youth Congress leaders hand over sealed cover naming Ministers, MPs and MLAs who may join YSRC

September 02, 2012 10:06 am | Updated 10:06 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Several Youth Congress leaders have petitioned AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi urging him to take measures to revive the party’s fortunes by taking action against certain Ministers whose loyalties to the party had become suspect after the Assembly by-elections held in June.

Former APYC president T. J. R. Sudhakar Babu and over a dozen former District YC chiefs called on Mr. Rahul Gandhi at New Delhi two days ago and handed over to him a sealed cover containing the names of at least seven Ministers, some MLAs and MPs who, they suspect, could cross over to the YSR Congress Party any time.

It is understood that Mr. Gandhi asked his office to look into the matter. On his advice, the former YC chief and others met the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Saturday and drew his attention to the activities of these Ministers. A copy of their petition has already submitted to PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana.

Mr. Sudhakar Babu had last month accused the party leadership of turning blind eye to the activities of certain Ministers, MPs and legislators. These leaders were biding their time in the Congress and would not hesitate to join the YSR Congress.

He wanted the party leadership to understand the seriousness of the situation and act immediately.

Rajya Sabha member V. Hanumantha Rao has also been raising his voice about the suspect loyalties of certain leaders.

In this background, he has conveyed a meeting of the former APYC presidents at Jubilee Hall here on September 8 to chalk out an action plan.
