Armed with a High Court judgement on bandhs, private schools have decided to defy the bandh calls given by political parties.
The A. P. Private Schools Managements Association that met on Wednesday has decided to keep the schools open on August 31 despite the bandh call given by the YSR Congress Party against power shortage in the State.
The Association president S. Sreenivas Reddy said that though it was not clear whether the schools were spared in the bandh call given by the YSR Congress, the schools have decided to function in the interests of students.
He said that last year 40 instructional days were lost due to bandh calls and there was lot of pressure on teachers to complete the syllabus on time.
Even students were put to mental pressure and agony.
Mr. Reddy said that keeping the students’ interests in view the association filed a Public Interest Litigation in the High Court that directed the Principal Secretary, Home Department and Director General of Police to take appropriate steps in accordance with the provisions of law during bandh calls. “We met the DGP and the Principal Secretary, Home and requested them to take action as per High Court order,” Mr. Reddy said.
