Leaders of YSR Congress Party registered their protest over the alleged poor quality of works in Indiramma houses, which are constructed for poor families at YSR Nagar in Kothur major panchayat on city outskirts.

Encouraged by the recent electoral successes, YSRCP leaders have started mounting attacks on the ruling Congress party leaders at every given opportunity. The collapse of an Indiramma house at YSR Nagar two days ago came handy in targeting the government.

YSRCP leader and Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy, accompanied by city leaders Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy, Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy and P. Anil Kumar Yadav, visited the damaged house site and enquired about the cause for the collapse. He criticised the contractors and officials for not taking sufficient action to ensure quality in these works.

Deploring the ‘negligent’ attitude of the administration, Mr. Rajamohan Reddy said that former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had started the Indiramma housing scheme with the sole purpose of providing strong houses to the poorest of the poor families. “It is deplorable that no quality has been maintained in the building of these houses. Justice should be ensured to poor families by constructing strong houses for them,” he added.

The YSRCP leaders also went around YSR Nagar checking the quality of other houses. They alleged that the walls of the houses were showing cracks and ceiling works too were substandard.

The incident came as an embarrassment for ruling party leaders, especially Nellore Rural MLA Anam Vivekananda Reddy, whose followers were stated to be involved in the contract works for Indiramma housing scheme. This incident is expected to increase the rivalry between the two parties in the coming days.
