The State government is aiming at fine-tuning the flagship programmes and resolving problems being faced at the micro level immediately, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy has said.

“Effective implementation of government schemes is our prime objective during Indiramma Baata,” Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy told The Hindu here on Sunday. We would also look into individual problems by conducting Rachabanda soon, he added.

Expressing the confidence that the recommendations made by the Dharmana Prasada Rao Committee would strengthen the Congress, the Chief Minister hoped that the ruling party would improve its tally in the local body elections to be conducted soon.

Referring to various issues pertaining to the district, particularly the agitation over Sompeta and Kakarapalli power plants, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy made it clear that the government was keen on utilising every opportunity to improve power position in the State and establish new industries, as industrialisation alone would spur economic progress.

On the Arogyasri programme, he said the scheme would be further extended to cover a few other sections as well. Meanwhile, Paryavarana Parirakshna Sangham leaders Y. Krishna Murthy and B. Dhelli Rao submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister seeking the scrapping of GO 1107 which enabled the NCC to obtain land for construction of a thermal project in Sompeta.

TDP miffed

A delegation of TDP leaders, including Pratibha Bharati, was miffed when it was denied permission to meet the Chief Minister at the ZP hall. Members of the delegation staged a protest near Sri Potti Sriramulu junction when the Chief Minister’s convoy was moving towards the ZP office. Later, the police forcibly removed all the TDP leaders, including Itchapuram MLA P. Sairaj, for “obstructing” the movement of the Chief Minister’s convoy.

Lakshmipet incident

The Andhra Pradesh Dalita Mahasabha staged a protest at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue deploring the violence in Lakshmipet, where five Dalits were done to death on July 12. The police thwarted the plan of the association to obstruct the Chief Minister’s convoy at the busy centre.

Heavy police force was deployed and vehicles were kept to prevent the agitators from moving towards the main road. Association leader P. Benjamin and T. Aruna sought the arrest of APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana on the charge of extending his support to the culprits in the Lakshmipet incident. They also sought a CBI inquiry into the incident.

RYK scheme

Later, addressing beneficiaries of Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy assured to provide jobs to 6 lakh unemployed youths by the end of 2013 and bring about transparency in filling vacancies in government offices.

He expressed happiness over providing jobs to 2 lakh youngsters in the first year itself under the scheme, which would impart training also to improve technical skills among candidates and meet the requirements of industries. He said he was planning to fill 1.3 lakh vacancies through the APPSC and other government agencies.

Mr. Reddy also reviewed various government programmes at the Zilla Parishad hall and asked officials to meet the targets of Indiramma housing and other programmes.

Later, he left for Visakhapatnam on completion of three-day tour of the district.
