Two washed away in Kurnool floods

Two persons were washed away in a flash flood near Aluru in Kurnool district on Saturday night.

According to reports, two vehicles got stranded in the middle of Kallevagu stream on the Aluru-Guntakal road. While two persons were stuck in the vehicles, two others swam to safety.

The bodies of the victims were recovered and identified as those of Mallikarjuna Reddy of Guntakal and Basha of Ramadurgam.

Mallikarjuna Reddy was travelling in a Tata Indica and Basha in a ten-seater passenger vehicle.

The rivulet which remains dry most of the part of the year received flash floods on Saturday due to heavy rain in the catchment on Friday and Saturday. Aluru, Adoni, Yemmiganur, Mantralayam and Pedakadubur received heavy rainfall of 100 mm. Other parts of the district received moderate rains sufficient to take up sowing operations.
