A spiritual ambience pervades the temple city of Tirupati with the TTD and other organisations based here engaging themselves in some kind of a devotional programme or other.
Even as a five-day convention on the four main Agama Sasthras began at the TTD’s SVETA complex, the APSPDCL campus is reverberating with chants from scriptures as a battery of Vedic scholars performed the ‘Kareeri Ishti’ and other related rituals to propitiate the Rain God and seek his divine intervention to break the dry spell and bless the State with a timely and good monsoon.
On the third day of the five-day Yaga, vedic pundits performed ‘Varuna Japam’ in the holy tank of Sri Kapileswaraswamy here on Tuesday even as the stage is being set for the key ritual slated for Thursday, “Sahasra Ghatabhishekam’. Under the rare ritual which will bring the five-day yagam to a grand finale, water collected from different holy rivers in the country would be filled in the 1,296 earthen-pots kept in a special ‘yaga shala’ and a ‘Prana Prathistha’ performed by mass chanting of verses from the prescribed Vedas and sasthras by pundits.
The water in the earthen-pots are so pure and sanctified with the manthras that it would be used to perform ‘Abhishekam’ to the Shiva Linga in the TTD’s Kapila Theertham temple to propitiate the deity who is fond of Abhishekam and nothing more, says a pundit engaged in the ritual.
