The Telugu Desam Party's district unit on Sunday stepped up its campaign against Panchayat Raj Minister K. Jana Reddy for ‘harassing' his TDP rival T. Chinnappa Reddy, in the Nagarjunasagar constituency, by ‘abusing' his official status and ‘amassing' wealth worth thousands of crores since becoming a Minister.
Mr. Chinnappa Reddy and V. Swamy Goud, district TDP president, at a press conference here on Sunday challenged Mr. Jana Reddy to resign, face a CBI inquiry into his assets and come to a public debate, in the presence of media, to prove which of the two had acquired disproportionate properties. They accused the Minister of subjecting the TDP leader to ‘daily mental torture' by organising raids on his Srini Pharma unit at Choutuppal and seizure of lands by the Revenue department, with a view to finish him politically.
Telugu Desam leaders released a list of properties allegedly owned by Mr. Jana Reddy. It includes 190 acres (survey no.48) in Sultanpur, five acres (survey no.80-82) in Miyapur, and three acres in B.N. Reddy Colony, all Hyderabad. Besides, he owns four cars worth Rs.1 crore each.
Power plants
According to the TDP leaders, the Jubilee Hills-based JKAR Energy Ventures Ltd, a Jana Reddy group company, was operating four hydel power plants in Himachal Pradesh and a similar plant in Karnataka, with a total capacity of over 158 mw.
Mr. Chinnappa Reddy while throwing a challenge to his Congress party rival said if the public debate proved that he had illegally acquired lands he would quit politics. Mr. Swamy Goud wanted Nalgonda MP G. Sukender Reddy, who recently gave a clean chit to Mr. Jana Reddy, to face the public debate, to ascertain who was clean.
