Sunstroke claims 320 lives this summer

The prolonged heat wave conditions claimed over 320 lives across the State this summer.

According to the information collected by officials, 128 persons died due to sunstroke in north coastal districts, 122 in Telangana and 70 in the rest of the State. The District Collectors have reported the number of deaths to the government seeking compensation and relief to be given to the next of kin of the victims.

According to reports, most of the victims were agricultural labourers and a number of them were also elderly and aged. The next of kin of the victims can receive Rs. 50,000 under Apathbandu scheme from the District Collector, if the post-mortem reports confirm the cause of death as sunstroke.

Visakhapatnam reported the highest number of 50 deaths followed by Khammam (42), Adilabad (38), East Godavari (37), Prakasam (26), Vizianagaram (23), Krishna and Karimnagar (22 each) and Warangal (17).
