Renowned mathematicians and statisticians from across the country converged at the temple city for taking part in the second edition of the national workshop on ‘Ancient Indian mathematics with special focus on Vedic mathematics and astronomy' that began at Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha campus here on Friday.
The inaugural session of the five-day event saw speakers explaining the glory of the ancient wisdom available in the Indian sacred texts and the need to propagate the same in the larger interest of the public.
Dictionary project
Later, Assam Governor and Vidpayeetha Chancellor Janaki Ballav Patnaik formally launched the ‘Multilingual Sanskrit Etymological Dictionary' project, which aims at preparing a dictionary in ten languages with the etymological meanings of Sanskrit words and their usage in various contexts. He expressed joy at the realisation of his ‘brainchild' when he was at the helm.
After presenting an ambulance for the Vidpayeetha's Health Centre sanctioned from his MPLADS funds, Member of Parliament Chinta Mohan exuded confidence that the dictionary project would help reach Sanskrit to the masses.
Accompanied by Vice-Chancellor H. K. Satapathy, Mr. Patnaik opened an exhibition on ‘The life of Adisankara' and a monograph on the saint. He also declared open a book exhibition which will be on during the five days.
Later, the Assam Governor visited Tirumala for darshan of the Lord.
