The static surveillance team of Election Commission of India seized 36 kg of silver bars from two persons travelling in an autorickshaw near Super Speciality Hospital here in the early hours of Wednesday.
The squad led by team leader and co-operative Joint Registrar P Rajagopal intercepted the autorickshaw of Ramakrishnan of Angammal Colony with two persons identified as P Balu and G Manikandan of Sevvapet.
Silver anklets
On checking, the team found the silver bars and silver anklets worth Rs 21 lakh in two bags.
The two persons did not have proper documents.
Mr. Rajagopal said that the seized silver bars were handed over to the Income Tax Department in Salem.
Cash seized
In another seizure, the surveillance team led by Rajamanickam, seized a sum of Rs 1.49 lakh at Othiyathur Gate in Gengavalli union in Attur block from a car that proceeded towards Thuraiyur.
The occupant, a sales manager in a bank, did not carry proper documents, the sources said.
Later, another team seized two bags of new shirts and other cloth materials carrying the symbol of DMK and its colour from a person.
The seized material was handed over to the Salem Steel Plant police.
