January 05, 2017 08:57 pm | Updated 08:57 pm IST - UDHAGAMANDALAM:

More than 18,000 have been removed from the voters list published on Thursday.

The Nilgiris District Collector, P. Sankar, said that 18,550 names had been taken off the list.

“Most of these deletions were due to voters having died or moving to other districts,” he said.

According to the latest rolls, Udhagamandalam has the most number of 1.98 lakh voters, Coonoor has 1.85 lakh, and Gudalur 1.78 lakh voters.

The deletions include 4,513 who have died, and 12,445 people who have moved away from the Nilgiris to other districts.

Anyone who has been taken off the electoral rolls mistakenly can be added again, Mr. Sankar said.

The rolls also revealed that 9,043 of the voters in the district are between the age of 18 and 19.
