Nineteen Indian fishermen were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on Wednesday night on the charge of crossing the International Maritime Boundary Line.
Sri Lankan Navy officials said they were caught engaging in illegal fishing along the island’s north-western coast, near Talaimannar.
Four trawlers they used were seized.
Wednesday’s arrests bring the total number of Indian fishermen in Sri Lankan custody to 93.

While the Talaimannar navy arrested 19 fishermen, the navy in Kayts arrested five others who were found stranded after their boat ran aground near Katchatheevu, U. Arulanandham, president of the Alliance for the Release of Innocent Fishermen, said in Rameswaram.
