Souhrida Vedi award for N. Ram

N. Ram, Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu and Group Publications, has been selected for the 2009 Mohammed Abdul Rahman Sahib Award for the Best Media Personality, instituted by the Qatar-based Thrissur Jilla Souhrida Vedi.

The award, instituted in memory of freedom fighter and editor of Al-Ameen , Mohammed Abdul Rahman Sahib, carries a purse of Rs.25,000, a citation and a memento.

The winners of the Vedi's awards for 2009 in other categories are: K. Pankajakshan (C. Achutha Menon Award for Exemplary Social Work); Aryadan Mohammed (K.M. Seethi Sahib Memorial Human Fraternity Award); K.V. Rabiya (Joseph Mundassery Award for Outstanding Social Work); C. Radhakrishnan (T.V. Kochu Bava Literary Award); Sukumari (Bahadur Memorial Best Actor/Actress Award); Blessy (Ramu Karyat Award) and V. Shihabudeen (Special Vedi Award for Community Activist.

The awards will be presented at a function to be held here on August 8. Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi, Kerala Speaker K. Radhakrishnan and actor Mohanlal are expected to take part in the function, according to a press release here on Tuesday.

The awards were decided by a committee chaired by C.K. Menon, chairman and managing director of the Behzad Group of Companies in the Middle East, Europe and the U.S. The other members of the committee are Somam Thamarakulam, R.O. Abdul Khader, K.M. Anil, V.K. Salim, E.K. Rajiv, P.T. Thomas and Saleem Ponnambathu, the press release said.

The Thrissur Jilla Souhrida Vedi is a forum of Qatar-based natives of Thrissur.
