Late Bollywood actor Shammi Kapoor’s ashes were on Saturday immersed in the river Jhelum in Jammu and Kashmir, family members said.

Kapoor, who passed away on August 14 at the age of 79, had special affinity for the picturesque northern state, where some of his hit movies were shot.

“We have immersed his ashes in the river Jhelum that flows in Pakistan also. He romanced with Kashmir,” son Aditya Raj Kapoor told PTI by phone from Srinagar.

Besides family members including daughter Kanchan, Adtiya’s wife Preeti, the veteran actor’s friends from the film industry like Asha Parekh, Vinod Khanna, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and a few others were present on the occasion.

“We also went to Srinagar’s Dal lake in a shikara (wooden boat)....considering the love of the legend for it. We also planted a sapling at Lalit Hotel in Kashmir as my father used to stay there whenever he was in Kashmir,” Aditya said.
