Seven killed, eight injured in Karachi blast

A blast, apparently caused by explosives stored in a house ripped through Karachi, killing at least seven people, some of whom may have been militants.

At least 7 persons were killed and eight others injured in an explosion at a house in southern Pakistani city of Karachi today, police said.

The blast occurred at a one-room house located near Babri mosque in Baldia town area of Karachi at around 8.15 am, deputy inspector general Sardar Majeed said.

Other officials said five persons were killed and eight others were injured in the explosion.

Police and security forces cordoned off the area and bomb disposal squad carried out a search. Suicide jackets, grenades and weapons were found in the house which was rented out to unidentified persons, officials said. Police were trying to trace the owner of the house.

The injured have been taken to nearby Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

The blast smashed windows of nearby houses in the congested area.
