Flash floods in Tripura displaced thousands across several districts in the State. Normal life was also disrupted in the capital Agartala as some people were forced to use boats to negotiate the waterlogged streets.

Monday marked the 27th death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated in Sriperumbudur in 1991. His children Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and wife Sonia Gandhi paid their respects.  Rahul Gandhi tweeted: "My father taught me that hate is a prison for those who carry it. Today, on his death anniversary, I thank him for teaching me to love and respect all beings, the most valuable gifts a father can give a son. Rajiv Gandhi, those of us that love you hold you forever in our hearts."

On Wednesday, HD Kumaraswamy will be sworn-in as Karnataka's new Chief Minister, along with the rest of the cabinet. He's in New Delhi to invite several leaders for the occasion in Bengaluru. Preparations are already in full swing at Vidhana Soudha.

Venezuela's leftist leader Nicolas Maduro won a new six-year term on Sunday, but his main rivals disavowed the election alleging massive irregularities in a process critics decried as a farce propping up a dictatorship. His supporters took to the streets late on Sunday and let their hair down.
